Director
Dara Malina is a director of theatre, performance, opera and video. Recent credits include Caitlin Bebb’s THE PROTÈGÉ at Chez Bushwick as part of the Exponential Festival, Jillian Walker’s STRUCTURE/RACE at JACK and playwright/performer Daaimah Mubashshir’s solo work at the New Ohio Theatre’s AMERICAN AS F*CK festival. Original works include THIS IS A PROTEST OF WHAT HAPPENED (The Brick), Clarice Lispector’s THE HOUR OF THE STAR (Connelly Theater), Müller’s HAMLETMACHINE, LILITH (Columbia Stages), BLANCHE IN A BOX, HYSTERIA PROJECT/BEAUTIFUL WOMEN EATING CAKE (chashama), LES BOUDOIRS DES DEUX FEMMES (chashama; Bushwick SITE festival), and THE POST-STRUCTURALIST UTOPIA: NOW, WITH CATS! (chashama; Ugly Ducking Presse 2015 Emergency INDEX). She has collaborated with playwrights at Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Tank, Dixon Place, JACK, The Flea, Chez Bushwick, New Ohio Theatre, and Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre. Dara directed COSÌ, a short opera film and is currently working on OPHÉLIE, a second opera film. Next, she’s directing Alexis Roblan’s OURS at Dixon Place and a reading of DOCTOR AND THE DEVILS adapted from a screenplay by Dylan Thomas.
